Four Family Portrait Poses That Kids Love

Some Of My Favorite Family Portrait Poses That Kids Love โ€“ For Natural Smiles

Everyone who takes family portraits want the images to be fun and appear natural. Some kids can give a great smile on command. But in my experience, most kids need natural and genuine smiles brought out of them. Here are some examples of four family portrait poses that kids love that will get great smiles ๐Ÿ™‚

Most Kids Cannot Resist Jumping

The first family portrait poses that kids love is JUMPING! There is something about jumping in the air that kids cannot resist ๐Ÿ™‚ For these types of poses, I love to have everyone in the family holding hands and then I will come up with a way to have the kids jump. It may be a โ€œ1-2-3 jump,โ€ or I may call their name. When they are in the air, I will snap a couple of pictures. However, the best picture is typically right when they land on the ground. And the great part about it is that you cannot really tell they were jumping just half a second ago!

Make Sure To Bring Your Running Shoes

Along with jumping, kids also love to run. Similarly, I will snap some pictures as the kids are running, but some of the best pictures are snapped as they are anticipating the โ€œ1-2-3 go.โ€ Since kids love running, this is a for sure way to get genuine smiles.

Climbing or Sitting on Something

Another one of my family portrait poses that kids love is by having them climb or sit on something. This is a great pose if your child is hard to keep in one spot! Many locations have trees that are perfect to sit in. But I will also use a fence or bring a box that kids can sit on.

Spinning or Flying in the Air

Last but not least, most kids love flying in the air! In my experience, this works best for kids that are between 2-5 years old. If your child happens to be scared of flying in the air, younger kids can be held in the air instead of being tossed. These are great pictures to get while your kids are young because there will come a time where they are just too big to be tossed in the air ๐Ÿ™‚

If you are planning your own family portrait session, hopefully these tips have given you some fun ideas that we can incorporate into the session. Thanks!
